Objectives

As part of the overarching aim to upgrade COSMO-CLM at the level of a “Regional Earth System Model”, several couplings between COSMO-CLM and other external model components (e.g., land, ocean, global model) are underway within the CLM-Community. These coupling projects have in common the fact that they make use of the OASIS coupler. Until now, however, these projects are conducted relatively independently from each other, resulting in different “model-specific” implementations of the coupling interface. This situation will ultimately complicate the integration of these developments into an official model version as well as the simultaneous use of the full set of model components.

The “OASIS” Project Group will have the following two main objectives:
o Develop a unified interface, based on the OASIS coupler, for the various coupling initiatives in the CLM-Community (Land, Ocean, 2-way coupling)
o Coordinate the integration of the interface developed in 1) into an official model version of the CLM-Community

The “OASIS” Project Group shall be closed once the above goals have been achieved and the continued maintenance of the OASIS interface shall then be managed within the SUPTECH Working Group.

For details check the release status on the COSMO webpage. Click on "show" to see all possible code extensions and search for "oasis".

Publication about the unified interface, submitted Feb 2016:

- individual coupled systems were running on the same computational platform

- compare the efficiency of the components and identify the bottleneck in the coupled systems
