CORDEX Europe

Scientists from all over the world working on the European domain are organized in the EURO-CORDEX community. The different groups use different regional climate models to create a large ensemble of regional climate projections.

Model domain

For Europe, the simulations are performed on a rotated grid with the pole at 162°W longitude and 39.25°N latitude. The domain covers approximately the region from about 22°W to 45°E longitude and 27°N to 72°N latitude.

In EURO-CORDEX many projections have been performed on the high resolution 0.11° (approx. 12 km) grid. More simulations have been done at 0.44° (approx. 50 km) to enable a large ensemble of climate projections. An overview of the simulations in EURO-CORDEX is available here.

In order to increase the reproducibility of the simulation results and to avoid misinterpretation, the COSMO-CLM model grid for the CORDEX-EU domain is privided here together with the definition of the recommended external parameter data file.

Highlights

The figure shows the mean seasonal and mean annual temperature bias (1989-2008) [K] of the ERA-Interim driven EURO-CORDEX ensemble for the European sub-domains Eastern Europe (EA), Iberian Peninsula (IP), Central Europe (ME), and Scandinavia (SC). Filled circles: 12 km grid spacing, open circles: 50 km grid spacing. The gray bars denote the bias range of the ERA40-driven ENSEMBLES experiement (25 km grid width) in the period 1981-2000: entire range in light gray, inter-quartile range (corresponding to eight models) in dark gray and median as solid line.

Simulations performed or planned by the CLM-Community with COSMO-CLM-4-8-17

Runs at 0.11° (approx. 12 km)

An evaluation run was performed by BTU Cottbus using ERAinterim data (Dee et al., 2011) as boundary data for the time period 1989 - 2008. To establish an ensemble of climate projections the forcing GCMs and greenhouse gas scenarios (RCPs) listed in the table below have been employed. The data of the simuations which are listed as "pubished" are on the  in EGSF data portal.
